Better than Converse
My feet are a bit too wide for Converse (which I wear anyway). The toe box on the PF Flyer is wider, and therefor more comfortable. I have both the Low and High tops. I wear an 8 in Converse, 8 1/2 in the PFs (9 in New Balance EE and Nike EE)These are every bit as classic as Converse All Stars, but I would say they are a bit better constructed.

Was I disappointed? Yes I was hoping they would be just ...
I have a few observations to pass along. I do stress that I am not complaining about this sneaker. They were very inexpensive. I've owned several pairs of the center-lo sneaker over the years and on comparison with these Sandlots, that I've just purchased, I'm seeing that there are differences. These Sandlots do not have a rubber sole. Some kind of synthetic fabric type material forms part of the sole with a rubber-like center with the P.F. Flyer diamond tread. The sole is somewhat stiff so not as soft and flexible. The grip of the sole is kind of slippery ( not real rubber). I have no idea how they will hold up. These could be knock offs or perhaps, since the company has been sold, this could just be the new product. Not the same quality as the older P.F.s. Also, they are just a bit shorter and slightly narrower than my older versions. Was I disappointed? Yes I was hoping they would be just like my older versions. At this price though, I should have known the risk.

I loved these at first
I loved these at first, but I have had these exactly one month, and there is already a hole worn in the fabric inside the left shoe. I couldn't understand why my heel was developing a blister all of a sudden after wearing them several times with no problems, until I took the shoe off and looked inside.Update to review: I replaced the shoes through Amazon, and this pair lasted six weeks instead of four weeks before holes started ripping in the fabric of the heel, and then also along the outside of the foot. The canvas is starting to separate from the rubber around the front of the foot, too.Which sucks. I love these shoes. They're really comfortable, and they break in within just a few days. I wore them all over Europe for almost three weeks - I bought adhesive moleskin to slap over the holes in the heels until the split fabric wore down enough not to cause blisters, because I didn't have time to find and break in a different pair. These shoes are still wearable after a couple of months, but at some point very soon they're going to fall apart. If it weren't for the quality issue, I'd be buying a pair a couple times a year, but I can't justify spending the money when they start shredding within weeks rather than months.Second edit: They lasted a total of four months. They're technically still wearable, but a hole the size of a quarter has worn into the sole at the ball of one foot, and the insert is crumbling around the edges.

Not the PF's I recall In youth, but ...
After a gap of fifty-plus years, I was happy to once again don a pair of PF Flyers sneakers. This time around I opted for "Center Lo" shoes (we called 'em low-tops). Not surprisingly, modern PF Flyers are made in China (like everything else in America). At my size, 8D (mens), the fit is snug but all right. Size 8.5D might've been better. The width is a bit narrow though not squeezing. I don't lace my shoes real tight. And I'll never wear real thick socks with them.I was a bit put off by what appeared to be their cheap manufacture: essentially its molded rubber vulcanized together with canvas, finished inside with a plain cardboard footplate and a molded foam insert. Fifty years ago maybe they were made the same way. I don't recall. Little kids don't look for quality of manufacture. So -- four stars instead of five. Oh well, at least the shoelaces are still cotton and not woven nylon.PF Flyers Company today has done a good job of marketing their shoes in various color-combos, materials and configurations. And they're not price prohibitive to most pocketbooks. I got mine via Amazon for a very low price which is why I went for them.

My husband loves these!
Both my husband and I love our PF Flyers- both of us were always uncomfortable in Converse Chuck Taylors, so several years ago I branched out and picked up a pair of these for each of us, and we've never looked back. (...because we're "running faster and jumping higher!!!")He says he wants me to add that these shoes are second in comfort only to his beloved Patagonia Air Mauis, which are the most comfortable shoes on earth, so that's really sayin' somethin'.PF Flyers are SO much more comfy than Converse- they're a bit wider- and you gotta love the "posture wedge"! Actual support- awesome. Your legs and back do not get tired while wearing these, even when you're on your feet for 8 hours. Nice.My only gripe with PF Flyers is that the rubber of the edge begins to pull away from the cloth where your foot bends pretty quickly; but they are so much more comfortable than any other low-top that I don't care. I have them in 5 colors. I will say that the PF Flyers I've bought this year seem to be running a teeny bit larger than in the past- FYI.

They last far longer than Converse, but note the sizing specifications are different.
It's inevitable that these sneakers will be compared with Converse.First, the sizing. I take 9 and 1/2 in Converse, and 10 and 1/2 in PF Flyers.I also take a 9 and 1/2 wide in Rockport.I got the PF flyers in 10 and 1/2, and then replaced the enclosed 54 inch laces with 63 inch laces, The longer laces made it possible to tie them looser, so they could fit wider feet. For the quality difference with Converse, it's no comparison. PF Flyers last longer. Converse will wear out in less than two months of daily wear, or in three months of weekend wear. Converse wear out so fast, that I wonder if their soles have an additive that make them wear through faster. It's nice to have the look of classic sneakers with PF Flyers, and to have them last longer.
